Strategies for Funding Puerto Rico Energy Resiliency and Reliability

Puerto Rico experiences an average of 27 hours of power outages each year, 13 times more than the U.S. mainland. Yet less than 1% of philanthropic giving on the island supports energy resilience and reliability. Our research identifies three high-impact, underfunded strategies that can help shape how billions in federal recovery dollars are spent. Together, these strategies can advance renewable energy adoption and build a more reliable, resilient grid in support of climate change mitigation and adaptation in Puerto Rico.

This research was conducted as part of a consulting project for a donor who wishes to be kept anonymous. The Giving Green Fund remains dedicated to climate solutions with global impact and does not fund any regional climate change work in Puerto Rico.
