Beyond Zero Emissions

Beyond Zero Emissions (BZE) is an independent think-tank whose research shows the technological and financial feasibility of achieving zero emissions in Australia in the short-term, while maintaining employment for people in regional communities that have traditionally depended on fossil fuels. Its research identifies net zero pathways to unlock economic opportunities for emissions-intensive industries and regional communities.

BZE has developed sector-based and region-specific decarbonisation plans for the whole economy. This includes showcasing successful projects to inspire policy-makers to replicate and scale. BZE’s proposals are often modelled by independent economists, to enable quantitative costs and benefits to be identified and verified.

Farmers for Climate Action

Farmers for Climate Action

Farmers for Climate Action organises farmers, graziers and agriculturalists to lead climate solutions on-farm and advocate together for stronger climate policy. Despite being a relatively new organisation, Farmers for Climate Action has proven to have significant influence on climate policies at the state and federal level.

Based on Farmers for Climate Action’s achievements, strategic approach to addressing climate policy barriers, and the impact that additional funding would have, we recommend it as one of our top organisations for influencing climate policy in Australia.

Original Power

Original Power supports Australia’s First Nations communities to self-determine what happens on their country – whether that be to protect their country from a fossil fuel development, or support a community owned renewable energy project or climate adaptation solution.

Original Power also works to ensure Australia’s First Nations people play a central role in Australia’s renewable energy boom: harnessing its economic and employment opportunities; fostering local clean energy projects; and advocating for reform of regulatory barriers.

Our research on climate change mitigation opportunities in Australia

About our approach to Australian climate giving

Tackling the climate crisis requires systemic change that can only be achieved through government policy. This is why we believe climate donors can maximise their climate impact by giving to nonprofits working to enact systemic policy change. Australia is the world’s largest coal exporter, so pushing for more ambitious policy is critical for the global fight against climate change.

We focus on organisations that are directly working to advance Australian climate policy, through legislation, executive action, and regulation. We have considered organisations that use “insider” tactics such as research and policy drafting, “outsider” tactics such as grassroots activism, and communication designed to “change the story” around climate change in Australia such that climate policy is not linked to economic sacrifice.

All recommended Australian policy organisations have DGR status.
